243204 - 2021 IBC Hazardous Occupancies

Wednesday AM/PM - This is a full day class that covers the subject of hazardous materials to assist the Building Official in properly dealing with the more dangerous occupancies. The pertinent sections of the IBC regarding Hazardous Materials will be covered, Sections 307, 414 and 415 will be discussed including each type of H occupancy, as well as additional sections of other codes. The class covers how to correctly classify materials, correctly determine when a label of “H” occupancy is appropriate and determines various manners of protection required to reduce risk and perhaps even eliminate the H classification. Control areas, storage, open and closed systems will all be discussed in depth.

Bill Clayton – Shums Coda Associates
William Clayton, CBO is a consultant with Shums Coda Associates. He currently holds 20 certifications including ICBO, ICC, FEMA Emergency Management Institute certifications, Firestop Council Firestop Inspector, State of Colorado 3rd party Public School Inspector, and State of California Safety Assessment Inspector. Bill’s experience ranges from being a builder designer/builder for 17 years to becoming a roofing inspector at Pikes Peak Regional Building Department that led to various Building and Mechanical/Plumbing certifications and being a combo inspector for the City of Westminster, CO. In 1997 he became the Senior Plans Examiner for the City of Westminster, Colorado. Bill was hired as the CBO of Lakewood, CO in 2007 and kept that position until hired away by Steve Thomas of Colorado Code Consulting in 2015. He has worked with CCC for 6+ years as a plan analyst, inspector, instructor, and code consultant. Bill served as a member of the ICC IEBC code committee from 2008 to 2014 during the development of the 2009 and 2012 IEBC, and recently has been appointed to the 2024 committee. He later became a member of the IBC General Committee for the 2015 code cycle. Bill is involved in the local ICC chapter code change committee and remains passionate about instructing and consulting work.
