241240 - Understanding & Applying Texas Accessibility Standards

Monday AM/PM - This course is an overview of TDLR, the state statute and rules, comparison of the Federal ADA and standards applicable to the design, construction, and alteration of building/facilities. This course is also an overview of the 2012 TAS applied to common situations encountered in real life. This course can be used for the one hour of self-reported barrier free AIA CEU requirements for Architects and 8 hours of RAS CEUs. Non-RAS are welcome.

Instructors:

Marsha Godeaux – Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation
Marsha Godeaux has a master’s degree in Architecture from Texas Tech University and a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design from Texas A&M. She has worked at TDLR for over ten years starting as a plan reviewer and working her way up to her current position as Architectural Barriers Team Lead. Marsha’s most recent success in the AB Program has been her collaboration on the Texas Architectural Barriers online System (TABS) which launched on December 3rd, 2018, and becoming the ex-officio representative for TDLR on the Texas Governor’s Committee for People with Disabilities (GCPD).


Jonathan Sparks – Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation
Jonathan Sparks has been with the Architectural Barriers program of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation since April 2021. He started as a Program Specialist I and has worked his way up to a Program Specialist III. Prior to working with TDLR, Jonathan has worked in many different fields such as physical security, automotive technician, and logistics. He brings a variety of knowledge and is a valuable member of the Architectural Barriers team. He is a native Austinite and attended Pflugerville High School. After graduating, Jonathan enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as a Motor Transportation Operator and is a combat veteran.
