Wednesday PM - This session will cover why GIS is important for disaster response, what GIS apps and map products are available for disaster response, how GIS maps are used all the way through recovery. We will have examples of how GIS has been used in Texas for disaster response.

David Allen – City of Roanoke
David Allen has over 40 years of experience working in the GIS field, including the City of Euless where he recently retired after 34 years. He's currently working as the GIS Program Coordinator for the City of Roanoke, building a ground-up system there. He also serves as the State Director of Operations for the Texas Emergency GIS Response Team, a volunteer emergency response group, developing training and response materials for disaster mapping. He recently retired from teaching for Tarrant County College’s GIS program after working over 19 years as an adjunct professor and GIS program chair. He has authored ten college level textbooks in GIS and lectures all over the country on applications of GIS.
